Things my designers are tired of hearing.

❋ A great designer knows when to stop.

Knowing when it's just too much is a skill. So is knowing when you've heard enough. Feedback matters. Different perspectives make the work better. But more opinions don't always mean better decisions. At some point, you have to trust your expertise and call it. Fin.

❋ It's okay to be good enough.

You're constantly told to close the gaps. Fix your weaknesses. Get better at what you're bad at. But why? Being exceptional at something takes work, even when you're naturally good at it. And the better you get, the harder it is to get better. Your greatest potential isn't hiding in your weaknesses. It's in the things you're already good at.

❋ It's on you.

I could show you an example, tell you what I'd do, or point you toward a solution. But then you'd probably end up somewhere I've already been. I'd rather give you a starting point, ask the right questions, and see where you take it. You need room to experiment, get a little lost, and discover something neither of us expected.

❋ I don't have to have all the answers.

20 years, and I still want someone to look at my work. You can be experienced, confident, and really good at what you do, but you're human. That's why you surround yourself with people who see things differently, challenge your thinking, and catch what you've stopped noticing. You don't need to have all the answers. That's what other people are for.
